Calling God

Brent Musburger was in Oklahoma to announce a football game one weekend when he noticed a special telephone near the Sooner's bench. He asked a nearby OU player what it was for and was told that it was the hotline to God. Brent asked if he could use it. The player told him, "Sure, but it will cost you $100." Brent scratched his head, then thought, what the heck, I need a break in picking games. He pulled out his wallet and paid the $100. Brent picked all the winning teams that week.

The next week Brent was in Florida when he noticed the same kind of telephone on the FSU bench. He again asked what the telephone was for and was told, "Yes, it's the hotline to God. If you want to use it, it'll cost you $100." Recalling the previous week, Musburger quickly pulled out his wallet and made the call. Again he picked all the winning teams.

The next weekend Brent and his CBS colleages were in Nebraska at Memorial Stadium. Musburger walked down to the sidelines and noticed the same kind of telephone by the Cornhusker's bench. He asked Nebraska Coach Frank Solich, "Is that telephone the hotline to God?" Coach Solich said, "Yes it is, and if you want to use it, it'll cost you 35 cents." Brent Musburger looked incredulously at the coach and said, "Wait a second, I just paid $100 in Oklahoma and Florida to use the same telephone to God. Why does Nebraska only charge 35 cents?" Frank looked at Brent and replied, "In Nebraska, it's a local call..."
